CBSE Curriculum

At the Polaris International School, we believe each child is born with unique talents. Our CBSE curriculum, designed according to the National Education Policy (NEP 2020), is tailored to find and nurture those capabilities.

Being a CBSE-affiliated school, we are closely associated with parents and teachers to guide the all-round development of every student academically and beyond.

Understanding that early critical development (social-emotional growth, cognitive skills, and language) occurs quickly in the early years, our curriculum provides age-related learning experiences in four stages:

Foundational Stage (Nursery to Grade 2 | Ages 3-8 approx.)

This vital five-year stage focuses on quality Early Childhood Care and Education (ECCE). Learning is driven by activity, play, and exploration.

  • Area of Focus: Building curiosity, good social habits, and interaction skills.
  • Method: Play-based, activity-centred learning that welcomes children to engage with others and the world. We believe how children learn is as important as what they learn.
  • Learning Areas: Covers major concepts in various subjects like early literacy, numeracy, arts, and learning about the world around them.
  • Objective: To create a cheerful and interactive learning atmosphere where young learners develop a love for learning.

Preparatory Stage (Grades 3-5 | Ages 8-11 approx.)

Building upon the Foundational Stage, this three-year stage introduces more formal learning while continuing an exploratory spirit.

  • Focus: To transition from play-based learning to more formal but interactive classroom learning. Developing foundational literacy and numeracy skills further.
  • Approach: Continues to use activity-based and discovery methods but includes more structured classroom interactions. Supports both independent and collaborative learning.
  • Learning Areas: Provides a sound foundation in subjects such as Reading, Writing, Speaking, Physical Education, Art, Languages, Science, and Mathematics.
  • Goal: To build core academic skills and inspire students to discover even more complex ideas.

Middle Stage (Grades 6-8 | Ages 11-14 approx.)

This three-year period follows on from the earlier years, challenging students to handle more abstract ideas and think more critically.

  • Focus: Greater understanding, application, and analysis of the subject matter. Physical, social, intellectual, and emotional growth takes place during these years.
  • Approach: Emphasis on understanding abstract concepts within core subjects. Learning is enhanced through group projects and individual activities beyond the standard curriculum to build confidence and practical application skills.
  • Key Subjects: Science, Mathematics, Social Studies, Computer Science, Arts, and Languages.
  • Skill Subjects Introduced: For making the students future-ready, we introduce skill-based subjects such as Artificial Intelligence, Data Science, Health Science, and Finance & Marketing.
  • Objective: Creating a subject knowledge base, analysis skills, and familiarising students with related real-world skills.

Secondary Stage (Grades 9-10 Currently | Ages 14+ approx.)

The Secondary Stage (typically Grades 9-12) encourages more in-depth study of subjects, critical thinking, and greater student choice. We currently provide the first two years of this stage at The Polaris International School.

  • Focus (Grades 9-10): Building depth in curriculum, improving critical thinking, and preparing students for board exams. Continued focus on value education and overall development.
  • Method: Subject-based instruction with greater academic intensity. Encourages students to connect different areas of knowledge and consider future aspirations.
  • Subjects: Follows the CBSE curriculum for Grades 9 and 10, with a wide range of subjects.
  • Goal (at TPIS): To provide a strong academic foundation for Grades 9 and 10, helping students develop analytical skills and prepare them for the Grade 10 CBSE board examinations.

(We plan to extend our Secondary Stage offering in the future. Please contact the school for updates.)
